Samuel Roy Hagar, más conocido como Sammy Hagar, es un famoso cantante, guitarrista, y compositor de Rock Norteamericano. Entre otras bandas perteneció a Van Halen entre los años 1985 y 1996.

Años antes, en el transcurso de su carrera como solista, creó la mencionada canción "I Can`t Drive 55", que nace como protesta a la limitación federal de no poder conducir en autopistas a más de 55 millas por hora (88 Kms/h). Ley que tiempo más tarde sería modificada y finalmente abolida.

La canción pertenece además, a la banda sonora del PELICULÓN, "Volver al Futuro Parte 2", y como es de cabezona aquella historia, se hace coincidente con los 88 Kms/h...

En 1956, la canción fue un éxito total en la costa oeste Americana, y más tarde, producto del cover hecho por "The Kingsmen", esta se hizo conocida a nivel de todo USA.

Se han hecho casi unas 1000 versiones de este tema, y a pesar de que la letra es inofensiva, tambien es dificil de comprender, por lo que se le dieron interpretaciones obscenas, y fue prohibida en distintos estados; hasta fue investigada por el FBI

Este grupo de señoritas Neoyorquinas fueron famosísimas en la década de los 60 y en su formación estaban Veronica Bennett (voz principal) que luego tomaría el nombre de Ronnie Spector, su hermana Estelle Bennet, y su prima Nedra Talley. Se separaron como grupo en 1966 luego de dos shows (en USA y Canadá), donde telonearon a los Beatles
